World Engineering Day 2025: Unleashing the power of engineers to advance the Sustainable Development Goals

Today, we celebrate the brilliant minds and dedicated teams who are shaping a sustainable future through engineering. This year’s theme, ‘Unleashing the power of engineers to advance the Sustainable Development Goals’, highlights the essential role engineers play in creating innovative solutions to address global challenges and build a more environmentally responsible world. 

At Blue Support Services, our Building Services Engineers work tirelessly alongside our 24/7 UK-based helpdesk to ensure that our buildings consistently provide essential services, such as clean, accessible water, reliable energy, and modern sanitation systems. 

Here are just a few ways our teams contribute to a more sustainable future: 

• Supporting NHS services: By completing vital projects that allow more healthcare services to be delivered from our buildings. 
• Driving low-carbon innovation: Exploring new solutions to enhance energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of our buildings, helping the NHS achieve its Net Zero Carbon targets. As part of this commitment, all our buildings were designed and constructed to meet the highest environmental performance standards available at the time, incorporating various sustainability and carbon reduction features. 
• Exceeding national targets for energy performance: The NHS aims to ensure that all their occupied buildings achieve an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of ‘C’ or above by 2030. Nationally, this presents a significant challenge, as less than 35% of the NHS estate currently meets this target. However, all 18 of our managed healthcare buildings already meet or exceed this requirement, demonstrating our proactive approach to sustainable building management. 
• Proactive maintenance for sustainability: Our dedicated team manages Pre-Planned Maintenance (PPM) tasks, which help reduce reactive maintenance, extend asset lifespans, and maintain our buildings to the highest standards.
